Celebrate 15 years of AAH with us!

AAH hosts three annual events and many others throughout the year, and we anticipate much celebrating in 2019 as well mark our 15th anniversary.  Our annual picnic takes place in early June and is our opportunity to thank all of our volunteers and donors for their support.  In September, runners and walkers are invited to the Global Strides 5K, and in late October, we hold our annual gala – our biggest event of the year!  Stay tuned here for more information or sign up for our newsletter to get updates delivered straight to your inbox.

Annual Events

Global Strides 5K

Come and run with us!  The annual Global Strides 5K takes place in Bluemont Park in Arlington, VA and is open to all levels of runners and walkers.  In the 2018 5K, held on Sunday, September 23rd, some walked, some ran, and some wagged, but everyone had an equally fun time at AAH’s Global Strides 5K on Sunday, September 23rd. With over 170 participants (plus furry friends!), Bluemont Park was a buzz with runners and tunes, courtesy of Tuckahoe alumnus, DJ TJ. Thanks to everyone who braved the rain and came out to run or walk or cheer! Thank you to our sponsors Don Tito, Carolyn Connell, and the ATS PTA and thanks to the Tuckahoe PTA for donating the water. Thanks as well to the volunteers and all of our participants for showing their AAH pride and helping to support our mission.  See you in 2019!

Congratulations to Thomas Lee, a student at Arlington Traditional School, for creating the winning design in the Global Strides 5K 2018 T-shirt contest!  Thomas’s design was featured on the race shirts and bibs.  Bravo, Thomas!

AAH Annual Gala

Join us at the Clarendon Ballroom for an evening of friends and fundraising. With silent and live auctions filled with fabulous prizes, let’s have a bit of fun while raising the funding needed to support AAH’s mission to partner with communities in rural Uganda and improve the quality of their daily life.  A great evening for a fantastic cause!  We’re using a new ticketing website this year, so if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email us at info@aahuganda.org or call us at 703-879-6034.  See you there!

In Bumwalukani, the students address visitors with the formal title of “teacher”. In reality, the teaching is mutual. It’s a cultural exchange. From the U.S., the wealth disparity appears to be a solid line dividing sponsors from Ugandan students, but, ultimately, we’re all students. We’re all human.
